What happens if you knowing lie on a paper and its notarized, also you didnt proof it and the childs birthdate is wrong.Shouldnt they just throw out your claim?Just opinions wanted.I did not lie but know of someone who did and have proof.

I'm not sure what happens... I'd be interested to hear though. I am a notary. & as long as the people who are signing are who they say they are w/ proper ID, I don't worry about what's in the document. Ha. Well, now I don't notarize hardly at all except for friends.

I had checked into becoming a notary a few years back and in my research I believe I read that the notary is not responsible for the content. The notary is only responsible for making sure that the signee is who they say they are. The signee is responsible for the content. Really there is no way for the notary to verify the information in most cases. Example: I need to write an afidavit for a prosecuter stating that I was present and witnessed so-and-so hit his wife. The notary would have no knowledge of that. If I then retracted my statement, the defense would then say that I was an unreliable witness because I had signed a sworn statement stating that I had witnessed and have my statement thrown out. Long winded, but I hope it helps. :)

Here, I looked it up: Does a notary certificate make a document true or legal? Written by Hazzaa Kassis No. Notaries are not responsible for the accuracy or legality of documents they notarize. The signers are responsible for the content of the documents. The notary is simply responsible for identifying the signer and if applicable administering an oath. In addition, a notary may not give legal advice or draft legal documents unless he or she is an attorney. A non-attorney notary public who does so is subject to criminal prosecution and civil penalties.

Thanks J- I know he is going to get caught when it goes further, since he knowingly lied and signed as it states true to best of his knowledge.GRR. Anyways! I know the notary would not be liable, but the fact the person who stated lies and went and had notarized should be getting in trouble.IMO

Yeah we have a lawyer already and she has the proof just waiting on court response.:)

Was the child's birthdate intentionally changed, or was it a typo? If it was a typo, then the court will probably rule it an "honest mistake". It depends on how important the DOB is to the document. If the notarized statement was drawn up specifically to verify DOB, then it would be considered perjury and the person could be held in contempt of court.
