Race horses or very expensive horses usually have their upper lip tattooed with an ID number. There's a good reason for it. This is just wrong.

I cant get either link to pop up for some reason.. But it's common practice to tattoo your pet.. just another form of identifing.. (like micro chipping) 

It was a large red and black tribal tattoo on the dog's chest. Definitely not a small tattoo for identification. 

oic.. well, certainly not something I wold do to my pet.. But I really dont see the harm in tattooing your animal so long as proper consideration for the animal is taken. At the same time, I do understand the upset of a giant tattoo on a dog.
